What Is Nutritional Yeast Made Of?

Derived from ‘non-live’ powdered yeast, nutritional yeast is formed when oxygen meets molasses and starts to ferment.

Nutritional yeast is derived from the same organism as Brewer’s Yeast(saccharomyces cerevisiae).

You can purchase two forms of nutritional yeast…

    • Unfortified; Contains naturally occurring vitamins and minerals.

    • Fortified: Supplemented with artificial vitamins and minerals(such as B12).

Nutritional Yeast can be purchased in Flake, Powder, and even granule form.

If you like cheese then you’ll love the taste of nutritional yeast!

This flaky supplement has a light-cheesy flavor and can add flare to bland foods.

You may find that stirring the yeast into hot soups can bring out the flavor more than in cold meals.
